About us

At Action for Children, we put children at the heart of everything we do. We believe that every child and young person has the right to a safe and happy childhood and the foundations they need to thrive.

We protect and support children and young people by:

Providing practical and emotional care and support
Ensuring their voices are heard
And campaigning to bring lasting improvements to their lives

Driven by love, we work tirelessly to support children facing the harsh realities of poverty and difficult circumstances. There are over 4.5 million children currently live in poverty in the UK and those we work with at Action for Children are often among the worst affected. As our staff know only too well, children are going without the basics like food, clothing and warmth.

They are being robbed of their childhood; it’s affecting their mental and physical health and it’s setting them up to fail. Action for Children is here to change that, providing essential support and services to help these children build a brighter future.

The funds we receive have such a huge impact on our beneficiaries - the children, young people and families who need it most.

They enable us to provide 372 children’s services in local communities across the UK, in schools and online. We provide support, assistance and a safe space and cover a multitude of areas including children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, mental health and wellbeing, poverty, children in care, practical parenting advice and emergency shelter for young adults. We are also able to purchase basic necessities through our crisis fund, where funds raised can be used to provide emergency items for vulnerable children and families living in poverty. This can include food, clothing, electricity, school equipment or even a present at Christmas time, which they would otherwise go without.

Children like Oliver.

“Oliver’s family were really struggling. They had nothing. And in the middle of winter, they couldn’t afford to put the heating on.

This particular little boy had a pair of cheap trainers that were his school shoes. And his shoes and socks got wet and cold.

It turned out he only had one pair of socks. Because there was no heating in the house, he just couldn’t get warm.

And he got chilblains in both feet and ended up missing two weeks of school because it was so painful to walk. Because they couldn’t dry his shoes out and he only had one pair of socks.

But thanks to the support of people such as yourselves, Oliver was given a new pair of shoes and was able to return to school. He was able to be around peers, build a sense of confidence and essential foundations for the future.”

Matched Funding Form for Fundraisers

EY will match up to £500/€500 for individual fundraising efforts and up to £1,000/€1,000 for teams with matched funding limits reset from 1 July. Click here for the brand-new application form and for further eligibility criteria and restrictions.

Getting Started…

Once you’re signed up you’ll receive all the information you need to get started from the Action for Children team and your dedicated fundraising professional.

This will include a link to create a Just Giving fundraising page that links directly to our EY London to Amsterdam Cycle Ride campaign. Here you can see the group total for all participants, as well as individual fundraising totals and Team totals.

Teams can be created by anyone who has a fundraising page linked to the campaign, where you can then invite other participants such as colleagues from your department or friend groups to link their fundraising page to your team. Team totals all feed into the overall total and are still individually accountable for their fundraising. It’s a great way to track your progress and promote some friendly competition, making your fundraising even more enjoyable!
