  • PERSONAL INSURANCE
It’s important to have personal insurance for a trip like this. Even if you’ve already got travel insurance, check with your provider that the insurance you have covers you and your bike for a trip of this nature. You should also have a European Health Insurance Card. If you have an existing EHIC, it will remain valid until the expiry date on the card. Once your current card expires, you'll need to apply for a new card. You can apply for a new card up to 6 months before your current card expires and can get one by clicking here.

    BIKE EQUIPMENT
You’ll need to make sure that you have a bike that’s in good working order, a helmet, and the relevant cycling clothing. We suggest you use a road bike or a hybrid. We’ll also have plenty of water and energy stops – but do bring your own bottle (or two) for your bike too. It might also be worth investing in some padded shorts they make a real difference!

Your additional kit will be carried by the support vehicles throughout the three days. Do contact us if you have any questions about your bike or kit list. We do not carry reserve bikes, so in the unfortunate circumstance that your bike is beyond repair, we can arrange a rental bike for you (additional costs apply) from the nearest bike rental shop. Though in our experience most repairs can be done at the roadside.

    PERSONAL ITEMS
You’ll also need all the usual things that you’d pack for a weekend away – toiletries, money and, of course, your passport. Check you’ve got six months left on your passport, to be on the safe side. Entry requirements for travel to France can be found here.

OUR ROUTE

  • DAY 1 - SAIGON – TAY NINH  (77Km)

After an early breakfast, we will transfer north of Saigon (approximately 1.5 hours) to the historic Cu Chi Tunnels.

Here we will undergo a bike fitting before visiting the incredible underground tunnel network constructed by Vietnamese resistance fighters during the war years.

After stopping for lunch, we commence our challenge proper.  The route to Tay Ninh unwinds along quiet rural roads with the scenery transforming into a patchwork of paddy fields.

We will look out for the water buffalo as we continue riding through the local villages on route to the bustling market town of Tay Ninh and our hotel for the night.

  • DAY 2 - TAY NINH – SVAY RIENG   (80Km)

After an early breakfast, we set off for the Moc Bai border crossing, via the striking Caodai Great Temple.

Once formalities have been completed, we can enter Cambodia and catch our first glimpses of rural Cambodian life.

We pass traditional wooden houses on stilts framed by a backdrop of vast rice fields before stopping at a school for snacks; the smiling children are eager to welcome us.

The day comes to a close in the quiet provincial town of Svay Reing.

  • DAY 3 - KAMPONG CHAM  CYCLE (95Km)

We begin our cycling straight from our hotel in Svay Rieng.  We continue our journey north through paddy fields and Water Lily ponds.

There are many villages, and the children like to say hello along the routes.

We cycle mostly on dirt, gravel countryside roads. We make a water stop at 1 of the primary schools and visit and have lunch at a Buddhist temple.

As we approach Cambodia’s third-largest city, we are greeted by the sight of a hotel complete with a pool to soothe our weary limbs!

  • DAY 4 - KAMPONG THOM  CYCLE (90Km)

After breakfast, we leave the city behind and embark on the longest day of the challenge.

Heading into the backwaters of Cambodia, we cycle through tropical countryside where the jungle stretches all the way to the foot of the road.

A 10km off-road section will take us right to the heart of the sleepy backwaters, where lycra-clad foreigners can cause quite a stir!

Our day draws to a close as we finish at a local school before transferring the final busy section into our accommodation in Kompong Thom.

  • DAY 5 - ANGKOR WAT (60Km)

Today, we avoid some of the poorer roads in Siem Reap province by transferring two hours to the Ancient Bridge at Kampong Kdei, one of the best examples of the remaining 800-year-old bridges in Cambodia.

From the bridge, we follow the historic highway connecting the provinces of Kampon Thom and Angkor Wat. We begin to cycle off-road from Ou village through the remote countryside to Samrong, and we stop for lunch at Stung Tracheck restaurant.

After lunch, we cycle taking the off-road again until we arrive in the Angkor archeological park.

The road into the World Heritage Site of Angkor Wat is lined with temples and creates a fitting entrance to this unique and spiritual city.

After celebrating our arrival in Angkor Wat, we cycle the last few kilometres to Siem Reap, where we will spend the night and enjoy a well-earned celebratory meal together.
